Doctors under pressure from HMRC

Doctors travelling to remote & rural GP surgeries are having difficulty claiming their expenses as HMRC say they won’t reimburse the cost of their flights after an initial agreement to do so.

Therefore doctors & NHS staff are unable to take up locum positions in these rural communities, who are now facing huge problems as there is an enormous amount of need for NHS staff & doctors in areas such as poorer areas in Ayrshire.

An HMRC spokesperson said: "People who provide their services through a personal service company, and who are genuinely self-employed, can continue to claim tax relief on travel and subsistence expenses through their company."
